    Daniel Adebesin

    Avatar Participant Profile: Daniel Adebesin

Daniel Adebesin was one of six CRIN-supported participants in Avatar Ignite, a leadership development program that puts participants to work on real-world energy technology challenges. He spoke to CRIN about the Avatar Program and his goals.

    About Daniel Adebesin:

Daniel Adebesin is originally from Lagos, Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Lagos and a Master of Engineering from the University of Calgary. His engineering background includes internships at Shell and the Department of Petroleum Resources in Lagos, as well as Flathead Equity Partners Ltd. in Calgary, where he proudly represented the firm at the 2024 Global Energy Show.

    About the Avatar Program:

Adebesin describes the Avatar Program as life-changing, a golden opportunity for anyone in the energy and engineering space. More than a platform for growth and networking, he sees it as a transformational experience.

“You go to school to do an MBA or a master’s, but you’re often surrounded by similar mindsets or levels of knowledge," he says. "Now imagine working alongside brilliant individuals from diverse professional and life backgrounds, all driven to make the world better. That’s what Avatar Innovations offers, and it’s an honour to be part of such a system.”

    About Carbonaut Technologies:

Adebesin's team, Carbonaut Technologies, is unlocking carbon capture for the underserved market of small- to medium-sized industrial emitters. Their system can capture up to 10,000 tons of CO₂ annually per unit. It runs on waste heat and uses a breakthrough, metal-free porous material which offers high performance at low energy. The captured CO₂ is sequestered or converted on-site into valuable chemicals, unlocking new revenue streams for operators.

    Next Steps:

Adebesin’s motivation to join the program stemmed from a desire to build credibility and reputation within Canada’s competitive job market. With long-term goals in the energy industry, he is also fueled by a strong entrepreneurial spirit, inspired in part by his father, and he is passionate about developing impactful, sustainable innovations.

Carbonaut Technologies is currently in the Avatar Studio phase, a venture development track that will continue through mid-November 2025.
